Amy Winehouse to sing on Strictly
Grammy winner Amy Winehouse is to make her television comeback on BBC1′s Strictly Come Dancing – as a backing singer for her teenage goddaughter.
The Back to Black star will sing backing vocals for 13-year-old Dionne Bromfield – the first signing to Winehouse’s Lioness record label – on a live show on Saturday October 10th.
"Amy and I both love Strictly… so it was brilliant to find out I’ll be on TV for the first time singing on one of my favourite shows," said the youngster, who will perform her first single Mama Said, a cover of the Shirelles’ 1961 hit.
Winehouse, who has spent much of the past year in the Caribbean recording a follow-up to her award-winning album Back to Black, said Bromfield was "so much better" than she had been at 13.
"The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing – such an amazing voice from such a young girl," she told the Sun.
The 26-year-old made Bromfield her first signing to Lioness and has worked closely with her goddaughter on a forthcoming album featuring several covers of classic soul songs.
Mark Linsey, controller of entertainment commissioning, added of Winehouse and Bromfield’s appearance: "We are delighted to showcase the television debut of Dionne Bromfield on Strictly Come Dancing.
"Dionne is an exceptional new talent and it will be an extra special event for our viewers to see her perform alongside Amy Winehouse, an artist we have been looking to book on the show for some time."
Winehouse’s return to TV comes on the same weekend as Robbie Williams’ appearance on The X Factor, with the Angels star performing in the UK for the first time since 2006.
